What to expect in Apple's 'Far Out' event?

Published Sep 5, 2022 04:04 pm

Another year. Another Apple event. It’s happening this week, on September 8 at 1am. Yes, we can expect the new iPhone series, new Watches, and new AirPods. There are even some hopes of finally seeing Apple’s mixed reality headset. It’s a long shot. But hey, you never know.

Among the top rumors circulating about Apple, which has been going on for some time now, is the unveiling of four iPhone 14 devices. These will be: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max (or Plus), iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to rumors, only the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have the new A16 chip, making them the stars of the show. The iPhone 14 and the 14 Max might get last year’s A15 chip, which is the same one used in the iPhone 13. You might be asking, if that were the case, why even bother with the 14 and 14 Max, when you can just get the better Pro and Pro Max versions? Frankly, nothing. Apple does want you to get the Pro and Pro Max versions because they are pricier, and we keep hearing online rumors about a price hike.

Still, if you’re looking for justification in getting an iPhone 14 instead of a 13 Pro Max, one thing we can speculate is that there will be a slight bump up in specs. Sure, more RAM, storage, battery, and a newer design. Maybe. Apple does love refreshing designs.

It’s an odd decision on Apple's part. That most of us can agree with. But it is believed this decision was based on the global chip shortage. Maybe not really and the chip shortage could be Apple’s excuse to further differentiate the base models and the Pro models.

That in mind. Whatever is in Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max better be that far out. We can be absolutely certain, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will definitely have the better camera features. But hey, we keep hearing that the iPhone 14 will get rid of the notch and introduce a pill-shaped camera and speaker design.  Also, once more, according to rumors, there will be an always-on display, which makes sense considering iOS 16 has a big new lockscreen customization.

All of this iPhone talk is nice and all. But we’re getting some new interesting rumors about the Apple Watch as well. Instead of two slightly different versions, we’re getting three. The Watch 8, 8 SE, and the 8 Pro.

Of course, the new Watches would have all the health monitoring features we’ve come to love and adore in wearable technologies. But the Watch 8 Pro should be interesting the most, because it is said to be designed for athletes. It’s believed to be more durable and comes equipped in a rubberized build to help it endure extreme conditions. By the sound of it, you would be able to take your Watch 8 Pro up in the mountains.

The 8 SE on the other hand, is said to replace some of the older Apple Watches. Apparently, there are Apple customers who don’t necessarily upgrade their Watches even on a once-in-two-year basis and that’s totally understandable. The 8 SE aims to be that entry point for anyone who are interested in trying out an Apple wearable or those who don’t necessarily need all the fancy features as the SE has everything they already need.  But again, who knows, we’ll find out soon.

Finally, it’s possible we will be seeing an update on the AirPods Pro. Maybe a redesign? Or just another refresh – since the AirPods look has become iconic (Remember all the memes back then?). So nothing too big on this side of Apple. Unless the new AirPods Pro would support lossless audio? It’ll be interesting to see how this goes.

That should be it for Apple’s Far Out event, unless they’ve got anything else hidden under their sleeve. We’ll be seeing another Apple event later this year, one where we get to see new Macs and iPads.

Apple’s Far Out event will take place on September 8 at 1am in Philippine-time. Oh boy, it’s going to be a long night for us.
