Cop involved in indiscriminate firing incident in Marikina surrenders in QC


A Quezon City Police District (QCPD) officer involved in an indiscriminate firing incident in Barangay Tumana, Markina City on Thursday evening , Sept. 1, voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at the QCPD headquarters on Saturday, Sept. 3.

The QCPD identified the suspect as Cpl. Felipe Pauig, 32, assigned to the District Tactical Motorized Unit (DTMU).

According to a Philippine News Agency report, the policeman was tagged in an indiscriminate firing incident at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Pauig and a security guard, identified as Jestony Pauig, took turns in firing the gun of Jail Officer 1 Dolifino Gatan of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) after a drinking session along Kangkong St., in Brgy. Tumana.

No one was hurt during the incident, the report said.

QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III ordered a manhunt operation against Pauig on Sept. 2, police said.

Pauig surrended to his immediate superior at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Quezon City at around 9:40 p.m on Saturday.

The QCPD said that the Marikina Police Station has filed a case for violation of Article 155 (Alarm and Scandall) of the Revised Penal Code against the police officer.

It added that it has initiated a pre-charge evaluation on Pauig’s case to determine his administrative liability.

The QCPD director encourage the public to immediately report abusive police officers of any rank so that they can be removed from service.
