BAGUIO CITY – The City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) reported Sunday, Sept. 4, that 20,000 dogs have been registered pursuant to the Responsible Pet Ownership ordinance here.
The CVAO said that more than 1,700 dogs and cats have also been spayed or neutered over the past several months to contain their population.
Dr. Michael Takinan, CVAO Veterinarian I, stated that most of those who had their dogs registered preferred the dog tagging method while only one percent availed of micro-chipping.
He said that the registration of dogs is simultaneously being done with the city government's anti-rabies vaccination drive not only in their main office but also in the different barangays.
Takinan revealed that there are more than 50,000 dogs and over 20,000 cats here.
He called on dog owners to register them with the CVAO to ensure that the city government will be able to achieve the goal of registering all dogs here.
Under the Responsible Pet Ownership ordinance, dogs are mandated to be registered by their owners with the CVAO either through dog tagging or micro-chipping so that owners of stray dogs can immediately be identified by concerned barangay officials and personnel of the CVAO.
Takinan said that the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats are an ongoing program of the city government for the benefit of the animal population here.
