DPWH: 4 vital roads in Mt. Province closed to traffic due to 'Gardo', 'Henry'
At least four main roads in the Mt. Province were rendered impassable due to rock and landslides and flooding triggered by the heavy rains due to tropical depression “Gardo” and super typhoon “Henry”.
As of noon Saturday, roads under ‘closed to traffic’ were Baguio-Bontoc Road and Napu Section in Bontoc Ili, both in Mountain Province. Travelers crossing here were advised to take the Maba-ay-Abatan Provincial Road as an alternative route.
Also closed to traffic were the Mt. Province-Cagayan via Tabuk-Enrile Road and Mt. Province – Ilocos Sur Road via Tue, due to slope collapse and sinking of the road section, accordingly. Travelers here were advised to take the alternate routes in Jct. Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road then to Mt. Province-Nueva Vizcaya Road, or take the Tabuk-Nueva Vizcaya-Mt. Province Road
One-lane passable was observed in Poblacion, Bauko in Mt. Province due to backfilling operation.
The landslide-prone Kennon Road remains closed and motorists heading to Baguio City may take Marcos Highway, Baguio - Bauang Road, or Asin - Nangalisan - San Pascual Road as alternate routes.
“Some of our national roads have been recently punched-thru open or are one-way passable wherein total clearing operations will resume or are still ongoing. Please avoid unnecessary travel if possible. However, motorists are advised to pass with extreme caution if travel is a must,” says the advisory from DPWH-CAR.
