What House posts did Velasco, Romero get in 19th Congress?

With the reorganization of the House of Representatives in the current 19th Congress nearly complete, it's interesting to see where the two ended up as far as leadership posts are concerned.

Last month, former Speaker Velasco returned to familiar territory after being designated as Committee on Energy chairman. This was the same post that he held at the beginning of the 18th Congress, before he ascended to the speakership.

As for former Deputy Speaker Romero, he was elected as chairman of the Committee on Poverty Alleviation during the plenary session Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31.

Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez succeeded Velasco as House Speaker. So far, there are nine deputy speakers, headed by Senior Deputy Speaker, Pampanga 2nd district Rep. and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The eight other deputy speakers in the chamber are Batangas 6th district Rep. Ralph Recto, Davao City 3rd district Rep. Isidro Ungab, Antipolo 1st district Rep. Roberto Puno, Las Pinas lone district Rep. Camille Villar, Ilocos Sur 2nd district Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan, TUCP Party-list Rep. Raymond Mendoza, Cebu 5th district Rep. Vincent Frasco, and Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr.

Several other chairmanship positions were filled during Wednesday's session.

Agusan del Norte 1st district Rep. Jose Aquino II was elected as chairman of the Committee on Public Information; Nueva Vizcaya lone district Rep. Luisa Cuaresma, of the Committee on Food Security; and Surigao del Norte 1st district Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas II, of the Committee on Land Use.
