The Muntinlupa City Council will honor the late Lt. Reynaldo Samson, chief of the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station, who was ambushed and killed by armed men in Maguindanao on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Councilor Raul Corro, majority floor leader, announced that he will file a resolution during the City Council session on Sept. 5 to honor Samson for “his distinguished service to our city and granting financial assistance to the bereaved family.”

Samson was a graduate of the city-run Muntinlupa Polytechnic College (MPC), now the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun), and served as a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences, member of the PLMun Board of Regents, and president of the MPC-PLMun Alumni Association.
Samson and Cpl. Salipuden Endab were on their way to serve a warrant of arrest in Barangay Kapinpin in Ampatuan, Maguindanao when they were ambushed by about 10 armed men.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), the warrant of arrest was to be served against Kamir Kambal alias Meds for robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons in violation of Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code under Criminal Case No. 953.
The PNP gave Samson and Endab the posthumous “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” (Heroism Medal), saying, “Their selflessness, commitment, and dedication to service is worthy of emulation which earned honor not only for themselves but also for the entire Philippine National Police.”
“I've known Lt. Reynaldo Samson since his student days at MPC now PLMun. He was very active at PLMun both as a student, scholar, faculty member, alumni president, and member of the Board of Regents. Despite his humble beginnings, he was able to obtain not just his college degree but several post-graduate courses,” according to Corro.
Corro said Samson “was an ‘Outstanding Muntinlupeño’ as he died in the line of duty and courageous in the performance of his sworn obligations as a police officer. He was a model citizen who rose from the ranks to gain a better life for himself and his family.”
In addition, Corro said, “We shall also call on the PNP to spare no efforts in bringing the perpetrators of the dastardly crime to justice. My sincerest condolences to the family.”
Earlier, Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon condemned the killing of Samson.
Samson’s remains will arrive in Muntinlupa Thursday, Sept. 1.
