ILOILO CITY – Seven persons have died amid from acute gastroenteritis amid an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis and cholera here.
The Iloilo City Health Office (ICHO) recorded three more deaths from acute gastroenteritis on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The ICHO-CESU said there are now 228 confirmed cases of acute gastroenteritis and cholera in this city.
Dr. Annabelle Tang, acting ICHO chief, said in a press conference Thursday, Sept. 1, that eight are confirmed cases of cholera.
Patients have experienced symptoms such as watery diarrhea; nausea, vomiting or both, stomach cramps and pain; occasional muscle aches or headache; and low-grade fever.
The Iloilo City Council will hold a special session on Friday, Sept. 2, to approve the declaration of state of calamity to enable the city to utilize calamity funds to curb the rising number of these two water and food-borne diseases.
