The two police officers who were ambushed and killed by armed men in Maguindanao on Aug. 30 were given the Philippine National Police’s “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” (Heroism Medal).
According to the Muntinlupa City government, the posthumous awards were awarded by Interior and Local Government Sec. Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Aug. 31 to Lt. Reynaldo Samson, chief of the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station; and Cpl. Salipuden Endab.

Samson was a graduate of the city-run Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) and served as a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences, member of the PLMun Board of Regents, and president of the MPC-PLMun Alumni Association.
According to the PNP citation Samson and Endab were given the Heroism Medal “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty during the conduct of service of Warrant of Arrest at Barangay Kapinpin, Ampatuan, Maguindanao against Kamir Kambal alias Meds for Robbery with Violence against or Intimidation of persons RPC Art. 294 under Criminal Case Number 953 while on the way to the said place, they were ambushed by more or less 10 fully armed men.”
“Their selflessness, commitment, and dedication to service is worthy of emulation which earned honor not only for themselves but also for the entire Philippine National Police. Their supreme sacrifice serves as an encouragement to every PNP personnel to continue rendering utmost service to the community as well,” according to the citation signed by Brig. Gen. Robert Rodriguez.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon condemned the killing of Samson, who was a former scholar of his office when he was a congressman of Muntinlupa. Biazon said he recently met Samson during the graduation ceremony of PLMun.
“Kaisa ako ng buong bansa sa panawagan ng hustisya para kay PLT. Samson (I am with the whole nation in calling for justice for PLT. Samson),” the mayor said.
Samson graduated from PLMun with degrees in Criminology and Secondary Education in 2007. He passed the Criminology board exam the same year.
He earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the Laguna Northwestern College in 2010 and completed the academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Education in Educational Administration from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
In 2015, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy with specialization in peace and security administration conferred by Bicol University.
Among the awards he received were PLMun’s Outstanding Alumnus in 2013 and 2016, and Outstanding Criminologist in the Field of Law Enforcement in 2013; City Pride Award given by then Mayor Jaime Fresnedi in 2016; Special Merit Award and Medalya ng Kasanayan in 2016 during the 25th anniversary of the PNP Police Security and Protection Group; and Outstanding Junior Police Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award by Tourism Sec. Ramon Paje in 2013.
