OWWA gives livelihood assistance to 31 OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has distributed livelihood assistance to 31 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were repatriated from their host countries.

The OWWA Regional Welfare Office-National Capital Region (OWWA RWO-NCR) led the awarding of P10,000 to each of the OFWs during the Info Caravan on Reintegration on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Aloha Hotel in Manila.

According to OWWA-National Reintegration Center for OFWs (OWWA-NRCO), 20 OFW-beneficiaries were beneficiaries of the Balik Pinay Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program while the remaining 11 were recipients of the Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP).

OWWA Administrator Arnaldo A. Ignacio graced the event and lectured the OFWs on how to handle businesses and how to manage their finances.

Ignacio encouraged the recipients to be thrifty and focus on their goals.

“You treat your money as if it’s not an addition to what you’re going to be spending today,” said Ignacio.

Also present during the turnover ceremony was Deputy Administrator for Operations Atty. Mary Melanie Quiño; Executive Director Gerald “Dindi” M. Tan of NRCO; RWO NCR Director Ma. Teresa B. Capa.

The BPBH program aims to enable women OFW returnees to start a livelihood undertaking for self-employment, while LDAP aims to provide grants for livelihood assistance to returning OFWs.
