Matthew Wright formally bids Phoenix goodbye

Matthew Wright had formally bid his goodbyes to Phoenix as his contract expired on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The former Fuel Masters sharpshooter took to social media to thank all of his coaches, teammates and staff after spending six years with the squad.

“It has been an unforgettable 6 years with the @fuelmasters. Thank you to all my coaches, teammates, ball boys and bosses for being a part of this chapter in my life. Most importantly thank you to all the fans who have supported me through thick and thin. I love you all,” wrote Wright.

Phoenix, on the other hand, wished Wright the best, after its repeated efforts to keep the 6-foot-4 wingman went down the drain. Wright had been vocal on his plans to explore other opportunities outside the Fuel Masters and even the PBA.

“The Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters wish Matthew Wright all the best in his future endeavors. The team is saddened to see its longest tenured player go but at the same time grateful for all the blood, sweat, and tears he put into this franchise. We know that he will keep the Phoenix flame burning within him wherever he may go,” the Fuel Masters said in a statement.

Wright has been long rumored to be bound overseas after getting offers from teams from B.League. Phoenix said the team will abide by the league policies regarding players going abroad.

“As applicable to any player of the team, we shall abide by the existing policies of the PBA with regard to players opting to play abroad,” it added.
