ZAMBOANGA CITY – Dozens of tricycles were rounded up here Wednesday, Aug. 31, during a crackdown conducted by the city government and the Zamboanga police against colorum units.

The Office of the City Administrator, Police Station 11, and the Traffic Enforcement Unit asked tricycle drivers operating within the city proper to present their documents to check their legitimacy as public conveyances.
Police Major Chester Natividad, City Traffic Enforcement Unit chief, clarified that the operation is not against tricycle drivers and operators, but to safeguard both the riding public and legitimate tricycle franchise holders.
The operation was launched amid a barrage of complaints from the riding public about the proliferation of colorum tricycles nd overcharging and abusive drivers.
Based on these, the Office of the City Administrator launched renewed operations under the administration of Mayor John Dalipe to address complaints by motorists.
A tricycle help desk was set up at the Office of the City Administrator to formally receive and process complaints involving erring drivers.
Problems on overcharging and abusive tricycle drivers have affected not only local residents but also this city’s image.
