CAMP BRIG. GEN. VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Charges have been filed against seven men allegedly involved in the abduction and murder of former delivery rider Eugene del Rosario on Aug. 16 in Taal, Batangas.
The Taal police led by Police Major Dante Lalap Majadas, family, and witnesses referred the criminal complaint to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Batangas City against the suspects Tuesday, Aug. 30, Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A chief Police Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Del Rosario’s abduction was caught on closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) and went viral on social and main media.
CCTV footage showed that victim had just arrived from Manila when he was abducted by the suspects onboard two vehicles in a gasoline station.
Hours later, Del Rosario’s body was found in Sariaya, Quezon.
Nartatez said revenge as motive came while investigation was ongoing and this was corroborated by two witnesses who identified the driver of one of the vehicles – Jefferson Sanchez – used in the abduction.
Del Rosario allegedly worked with Sanchez and his six other persons in “Basag Kotse” (theft of valuables inside cars) activities.
Backtracking of CCTV footage, interviews of possible witnesses, and background investigation of all possible persons of interest were done diligently by the police investigators, resulting in a positive outcome.
“With the display of professionalism, the police have gained the trust of the family of the victim,” Nartatez said.
He added that the live-in partner of Del Rosario, Jane Maureen Cabello, and his mother, Judith del Rosario, revealed the involvement of the victim in a series of Basag Kotse incidents in
Batangas and Cavite and parts of Metro Manila.
They also revealed that the victim had given a statement to the police naming the identities of his group members prior to his death.
