The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed on Wednesday, August 31 the appointments of the Philippine's ambassadors to the United States and the United Nations.

The CA foreign affairs committee chaired by Senator Jose ‘’Jinggoy’’ Estrada, however, reset its pubic hearing on the fitness of Luis Enrique Austria Manalo to become the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) secretary because of objections made by presidential sister, Senator Imee Marcos.
Confirmed as Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations (UN) was Antonio Manuel Revilla Lagdameo.
Jose Manuel del Gallego Romualdez was confirmed as Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States (US) with concurrent jurisdiction over the Commonwealth of Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominic, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and Grenadines and Saint Lucia.
Lagdameo and Manalo appeared physically during the CA committee hearings.
Romualdez, who is currently in Washington DC to prepare for the visit of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to the US, joined the meeting virtually.
He was named the Philippine Ambassador to the US during the Duterte administration.
Despite having been in the government service the past 15 years, Lagdameo said he is "still willing to serve the country’s foreign service."
He said he is physically fit after having gone through a recent medical checkup. He had a quadruple heart bypass in 1991.
"I am still physically capable to do my job," he said.
Replying to a query of Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Lagdameo said he defers to a position of President Marcos that the Philippines does not wish to rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague.
He said the Philippines is not on the "critical" list on human rights violations as perceived by the world.
When queried by Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, Lagdameo said he would explain the true circumstances of the human rights issue before the world body, adding that allegations against the Philippine government is an exaggeration.
He stressed that the Philippine justice system is "working to the fullest."
On Philippine-US relationship, Romualdez said the relationship between the two countries are "stable, stronger than it ever was."
