As part of its celebration of the 400th year of the arrival of Christianity in the province, the Apostolic Vicariate of Palawan will conduct a massive tree-planting activity.
Taytay, Palawan Bishop Broderick Pabillo said the project aims to encourage the faithful to be responsible stewards of the environment. The tree-planting project aims to plant 400 trees in each of the 64 parishes in Palawan.
The two Apostolic Vicariates of Palawan consist of 64 parishes and mission stations. More than 25,000 trees are expected to be planted through the tree-planting project.
“As we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in Palawan, we will be planting 400 trees in each of the parishes as our contribution to the preservation of the environment,” said Bishop Pabillo in his pastoral letter.
The initiative is a joint project with the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa which is led by Bishop Socrates Mesiona.
Bishop Pabillo, who also serves as chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Office on Stewardship said, being responsible stewards of the environment continues to serve as a challenge to the faithful.
“It is part of that responsibility that we nurture God’s gift not only for ourselves but for the future generation,” the Church leader said.
