Visayas business groups laud MORE Power’s effort in making Iloilo City power more stable

ILOILO CITY – MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) has earned some measure of respect after making power services in this city more stable and the electricity cost lower.

"We are proud of what MORE Power has accomplished for Iloilo City in just a little over two years,” said Atty. Jobert Peñaflorida, Western Visayas regional governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

“MORE Power has greatly improved the facilities and services as well as significantly decreased the cost of electricity and they did it all during the pandemic," added Peñaflorida.

Atty. Peñaflorida made the statements after a presentation of MORE Power at the recently concluded 31st Visayas Area Business Conference in Ormoc City.

In the presentation, MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro told the various PCCI chapters of the challenges when the Enrique Razon-owned MORE Power took over from Panay Electric Co. (PECO) in early 2020 including high system loss, dilapidated and neglected facilities, dangerously overloaded systems, and high electricity rates.

"There was no magic,” said Castro, referring to MORE Power’s success in Iloilo City.

“But we had to have the financial capability to rehabilitate the facilities; increase capacity and reliability; prepare for automation via a digital platform; and continuously train personnel,” added Castro.

So far, MORE Power has already invested over P1.3 billion.

"We also have the technical capability. We recruited personnel with a high level of integrity and technical expertise and employed reputable contractors with long technical experience. Next is to have an innovative mindset. Another important factor is to be socially responsible," Castro added.
