NCR tallies 11,390 dengue cases; QC, Malabon with highest cases, attack rate


The number of dengue cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has increased to more than 11,000 this year with Quezon City still recording the highest tally and Malabon on top in attack rate.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that the NCR tallied 11,390 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Aug. 26 this year, an increase of 5,604 cases or 97 percent from 5,786 cases recorded during the same period last year.

There were 29 deaths from dengue recorded this year with a case fatality rate of 0.25 percent, or the number of deaths over total cases.

Based on the number of dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Aug. 26, Quezon City is No. 1 with 2,344, up from 916 or 156 percent from the same period last year.

Caloocan placed second with 1,460 dengue cases followed by Manila, 1,313; Taguig, 1,273; Valenzuela, 1,022; Malabon, 983; Pasig, 556; Makati, 391; Paranaque, 360; Navotas, 305; Las PInas, 300; Marikina, 299; Muntinlupa, 261; Mandaluyong, 184; Pasay, 160; San Juan, 111; and Pateros, 88.

Based on the attack rate per 10,000 population, Malabon is No. 1 with 24.53 with 983 dengue cases over its total population of 400,763.

Valenzuela is second with an attack rate of 15.02 based on 1,022 dengue cases and population of 680,233.

Taguig placed third with a 14.42 attack rate based on 1,273 dengue cases and population of 882,512.

Navotas is in fourth place with an attack rate of 11.15 followed by Pateros, 9.72; Caloocan, 8.41; San Juan, 8.29; Quezon City, 7.28; Manila, 6.73; Pasig, 6.71; Makati, 6.12; Marikina, 6.05; Paranaque, 4.93; Muntinlupa, 4.72; Las Pinas, 4.65; Mandaluyong, 4.34; and Pasay, 3.5.

Overall, the NCR recorded an attack rate of 8.07 per 10,000 population based on 11,390 total dengue cases over the total population of 14.11 million.
