'Move on na tayo': Cayetano wants end to CA minority chief row
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday, August 30 expressed hope that he and Sen. Risa Hontiveros will stop and set aside their arguments regarding the Commission on Appointments (CA) minority leadership and just move forward to discuss the problems besetting the country.
“I hope we can move on and start working on real issues rather than try to divide the minority and the opposition,” Cayetano said in an interview with reporters.
Cayetano, who has identified himself as an independent minority, insisted it isn’t his fault if the members of the CA body did not nominate Hontiveros for the position.
Cayetano said it is best for the members of the minority in the Senate and the CA to unite and discuss real issues instead of battling it out on who is the real minority.
“I will not say anything negative anymore, despite what she said. There are bigger problems that we need to address to,” the senator said.
Both Hontiveros and Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III questioned Cayetano’s election as CA minority chief.
Both senators said Cayetano is identified as a member of the majority bloc. Pimentel also stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening the system of checks and balances in government by ensuring that a member of the Senate minority bloc heads the minority bloc in the powerful appointments body.
