Dengue outbreak declared in Tanza, Cavite; cases may reach 500 if trend continues

TANZA, Cavite – The municipal government here declared a dengue outbreak on Monday, Aug. 29.

In a video posted in Balitang Tanzeño, the local government unit's (LGU’s) official Facebook information portal, Dr. Ruth Punzalan, municipal health officer, said the Rural Health Unit (RHU) recorded 207 dengue cases as of Aug. 29.

This number is almost double the 109 dengue cases recorded in 2021 and the 125 cases recorded in 2020.

"'Nung last week ng July, meron lang tayong 30 plus cases. Naging 40, naging 80. Ngayon, 207 na ang cases natin. May apat na buwan pa tayo. Kung weekly, hindi magbabago ang trend, pataas nang pataas, aabot tayo nang 500 plus (During the last week of July, we only have 30 plus cases. It became 40, then 80. Now, we have 207 cases. We still have four months to go. If the weekly trend does not change, we might reach 500 plus cases)," Punzalan said.

According to the municipal health officer, the recent rains may have left stagnant water pools, contributing to dengue incidence.

The LGU has already intensified its dengue preventive measures, including boosting its information dissemination campaign and coordinating with barangays to search and destroy mosquito breeding places.

"Magkaroon tayo nang malasakit – mula sa loob ng bahay, sa labas ng bahay, sa buong komunidad (Let us all be concerned – inside our homes, outside our homes, in our community)," Punzalan appealed.

"Hindi na po ito kanya-kanya. Kailangan tulong-tulong tayo at sama-sama tayong sugpuin ang dengue (This is not just an individual effort. We need to work together and help one another to fight dengue)."
