KAMPO HENERAL PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna – A 29-year-old man was arrested Sunday, Aug. 28, in connection with the alleged murder of his former girlfriend's daughter due to jealousy in Binan City, Laguna, police said.
Police Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, Laguna police chief, said Jayson Abejuela of Barangay Loma, Biñan City was taken into custody in Barangay Casimiro, Las Piñas City.
A witness saw the suspect forcibly entering the house of the victim Jonaflor Gurra, 18, at about 3 p.m. The witness told police that the victim screamed and asked for help.
A few minutes later, the witness said the victim stopped screaming and the suspect left the house.
The witness entered the house and saw the victim's body sprawled on the floor with stab wounds in the body. Barangay officials took Gurra to a hospital where she was declared dead.
Police Lt. Col. Virgilio Jopia, Biñan City police chief, said they received a call that a woman living alone was found dead in her house in Barangay Timbao.
Binan police conducted a follow-up investigation and nabbed the suspect at about 8 p.m.
Police are considering jealousy as the motive because the victim is the daughter of the former girlfriend of the suspect. The woman reportedly has a new boyfriend now, which probably triggered the suspect to kill the victim in retaliation, police added.
