'Listen, address grievances of modern-day heroes' -- CHR

As the country commemorates National Heroes Day today, Aug. 29, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged the government “to listen and address the grievances of modern-day heroes.”
The overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), healthcare workers and frontliners, human rights defenders, teachers, parents, and all those who sacrifice for their loved ones are considered modern-day heroes, the CHR said.
In a social media post, the CHR said it “deeply recognized these Filipinos' sincere dedication and courage to carry out their duties despite the many challenges faced today -- from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic to the rising costs of basic goods and commodities because of inflation.”
"Umaasa ang Komisyon na magsilbing paalala sa pamahalaan ang selebrasyong ito upang pagbutihin pa ang pampublikong serbisyo para sa mga Pilipino, (The Commission hopes that this celebration will serve as a reminder to the government to further improve public services for Filipinos)," it said.
It pointed out that “the best way to give tribute to these modern-day heroes is to make sure that their grievances are addressed, their rights and freedoms respected, and that they are given opportunities to live a dignified life.”
"Saludo ang CHR sa patuloy na pagsasabuhay ng maraming Pilipino ng mga katangian ng mga bayani mula sa nakaraan, (The CHR salutes the many Filipinos who continue to practice the qualities of heroes from the past)," it stressed.
