Political prisoners’ support group appeals for ‘humanitarian release’ of Adora Faye De Vera

Political prisoners’ support group Kapatid, on Sunday, Aug. 28, appealed for the “humanitarian release” of Adora Faye De Vera and her immediate return to Manila highlighting her urgent need for medical treatment.

De Vera, a human rights abuse survivor during Martial Law, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 24 for her alleged link to communist groups.

“Kapatid appeals to the government to grant Adora Faye De Vera compassionate release. Adora’s political imprisonment reopens festering wounds yet presents a tremendous challenge to the new President to show he is not incapable of righting the wrongs of the past and that his mantra of unity during the elections is not a hollow message to sidestep his family’s brutal and corrupt history,” said Kapatid Spokesperson Fides Lim.

De Vera’s son – Ron De Vera – disclosed that his mother was in Manila to seek medical care for chronic asthma and other complications, adding that Iloilo is “not a safe place” for his mother who is now 66 years old.

“She has been through so much suffering. We appeal to government authorities to give her a chance to live a peaceful life and receive the proper medical care she needs. Please release her on humanitarian grounds and allow us to take care of her,” said De Vera’s son.

Earlier this week, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III, following the arrest of his elder sister Adora Faye, expressed his “full support” to the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in ending “communist insurgency” in the country.
