BACOLOD CITY – Unidentified men gunned down a drug surrenderer in Barangay 1, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental Friday, Aug. 26.

Police identified the victim as Jimmy Tortosa, driver, 36, of Barangay 2 here.
Police Senior Master Sgt. Aaron Selda, case investigator, said the victim was about to ride his motorcycle when a man on board a gray Toyota Innova shot him.
The suspect and his cohorts fled while Tortosa was declared dead in a hospital from 17 bullet wounds.
Police recovered from the crime scene 14 fired bullets from a .45 caliber pistol.
Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, La Carlota police chief, said they are looking into the killing as drug-related as the victim was allegedly involved in illegal drugs based on their continuous monitoring.
Garinganao said the victim was also under their drugs watchlist and was classified as a street level individual.
He said that they are also exploring other angles to determine if the victim had enemies.
