Omega sustains impressive start with sweep of NXPE

In a surprising turn in MPL Philippines Season 10, Omega Esports sustained its impressive start and picked up its third straight win with a 2-0 sweep of Nexplay Evos at the ICITE Auditorium on Friday, Aug. 26.

Unlike in the past few seasons where Omega used to struggle in the first round of the eliminations, the Season 9 second placers got a share of the early lead in the standings along with another surprise leader Onic Philippines.

After a convincing series opener with 16-6 win for Omega, the former MSC kings outlasted NXPE in a grueling back-and-forth affair in Game 2 which lasted for 37 minutes.

Banking on its patented late game magic however Omega came through in crunch time as Duane “Kelra” Pillas dazzled on Claude with a 7-4-9 KDA. OMG actually weathered a huge midgame storm from John Paul “H2wo” Salonga’s jungle Paquito and Mariusz “Donut” Tan’s Beatrix and dragged the match to a nip-and-tuck showdown in the late game.

A crucial Lord dance at the 36-minute mark favored Omega, securing a wipeout before going for the death push to pull off a 24-29 come-from-behind series clincher.

Kiel “Kielvj” Hernandez continued to flourish in his new role in the midlane with a 7-4-9 KDA on the Julian while Christian “Raizen” Sumagui had a 7-7-5 line on the Fanny pick.

Donut had a monster game of 14-5-8 while H2wo finished with a 8-6-9 line which all went for naught as NXPE failed to force a deciding Game 3.
