Hundreds join Ilocos Sur’s job fair, one-stop shop program


VIGAN, Ilocos Sur -- Some 648 job seekers tried their luck in the first Job Fair and One-Stop Shop program of the provincial government of Ilocos Sur held on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood and Development Center in this city.

Thirty-six hiring local agencies and eight One-Stop-Shop National agencies participated in the job fair where a total of 2,239 job vacancies were up for grabs.

Gov. Jerry Singson said the goal of the program was to provide employment opportunities for the job seekers of Ilocos Sur and help them process documentary requirements.

National and local agencies, as well as business establishments in the province also took part in the program hosted by the Provincial Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) in cooperation with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and PTV Ylocos.

Ten applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS) while 212 individuals were considered candidates for jobs.

“I would like to thank all the participating agencies, employers and hopeful applicants who are one with us in our pursuit of improving the economic situation of Ilocos Sur,” said Singson.

Present during the Job Fair were DOLE–Ilocos Sur Field Office Head Charity Ubilas; TESDA Ilocos Sur, Provincial Director Joel Pilotin, Provincial Administrator Marlon Tagorda, Provincial PESO (Public Employment Service Office) Manager Mary Madelaine Salvador; Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Ronnie Rapanut, Third Ranches and Art Oandasan.
