The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced on Saturday, Aug. 27, that it will launch the biggest job fair in the country that will give brighter opportunities to million Filipino job seekers, especially in the hospitality line of job.
DOT Sec. Christina Garcia Frasco said they have already forged partnerships with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) set for Aug. 30.
Dubbed "Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso! Philippine Tourism Job Fair", it is set to be launched from Sept. 22 to 24 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
“The job fair will be a multi-month campaign and will conclude in May 2023 to coincide with the 50th Founding Anniversary of the DOT,” said Frasco, adding, initial job fair locations will include Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
According to Frasco, the job expo will help the revitalization of the tourism industry lacking manpower due to the pandemic.
“Aimed primarily at providing a bridge and impetus for employment opportunities in the tourism sector, we will be signing the MOU with Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma,” Frasco said.
Frasco also talks to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to address the need for hospitality workers in Thailand. This, after Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn sought secretary Frasco’s assistance for a possible tourism exposition.
“The Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso Job Fairs will help our fellow Filipinos find jobs while helping the accommodation and services sector address workforce shortages, resulting in the continued recovery of the tourism industry as a whole,” Frasco noted.
