More than P4.4 million worth of food and non-food items were already sent to localities affected by the recent onslaught of severe tropical storm Florita (international name: Ma-on), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Thursday, Aug. 25.

Of the P4.4 million worth of aid, bulk assistance worth P3.1 million was delivered in Cagayan Valley while the rest were sent to Ilocos Region, Central Lizon, Calabarzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region.
“DSWD is assisting LGUs in monitoring the condition of 669 families or 2,057 persons currently taking temporary shelter in 36 evacuation centers in Regions I, II, III, National Capital Region and CAR,” it said, adding that it will continue to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and assess the situation to ensure the distribution of resources for the cyclone-affected residents and localities.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau on Thursday afternoon, said that “Florita” continues to move away from the Philippine landmass and is no longer affecting the country. The severe tropical storm exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday morning, Aug. 24.
