Woman engaged in illegal numbers game 'swertres' nabbed in Cebu

CEBU CITY -- A 52-year-old woman in Moalboal town, southern Cebu was arrested after she was allegedly caught engaging in an illegal numbers game called ‘swertres.’ Elizabeth Goles Castro was arrested in an entrapment operation in Barangay Poblacion, Moalboal past 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu Field Unit and the Cebu Provincial Mobile Force Company caught the woman selling number combination to her patrons, said Lt. Col. David Mahilum Mahilum said illegal gambling paraphernalia and P486 cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal numbers game were seized from the woman.

Charges for violation of the Republic Act 9287 will be filed against the woman, police said.

The Police Regional Office-Central Visyas has warned that it will intensify its campaign against illegal gambling.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has also advised the public that only the Saturn Gaming n' Amusement has been given authority to operate small town lotteries in the province of Cebu.
