Manila suspends gov’t work, classes in public and private schools until Aug. 24
By Jaleen Ramos
The city government of Manila announced the suspension of classes in both public and private schools, and work in government offices on Wednesday, Aug. 23, due to severe tropical storm "Florita."

Mayor Honey Lacuna earlier suspended the afternoon classes at all levels only in public schools and work in government offices in the city following Malacanang’s announcement.
The offices of the city government for emergency response, however, shall remain operational.
Private offices will also have the discretion to make their own pronouncements under these conditions.
The city government also said that the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the Department of Engineering and Public Works, the Department of Public Services, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, the Manila Health Department, the six city hospitals, and other agencies of the city whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services should also continue operations and render the necessary services.
