In a historic and unprecedented moment, Rotary International President-elect Gordon McInally received the surprise of his life when he was inducted as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Manila. This was the first time in the Rotary Club of Manila’s history that Rotary International’s highest leader was being conferred an honorary membership by Asia’s first and oldest Rotary Club, no less.
Witnessed by 3810 District Governor Joyce Ambray, as well as over a dozen district governors who graced Rotary Club of Manila’s 7th General Regular Membership Meeting, the oath-taking segment was officiated by Rotary Club of Manila President Herminio Esguerra in simple but meaningful ceremonies.
"Honored and humbled to be inducted as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Manila at their meeting today," Rotary’s president-elect from Scotland gushed. "A total surprise which caught me completely unaware."
McInally, a member of RC South Queensfery, Lothian, Scotland since 1984, has been selected to be President of Rotary International for Rotary Year 2023 to 24. He will take on the role from July 1, 2023.
The Rotary Club of Manila is the first and oldest Rotary Club in Asia, having been chartered in 1919 and has an outstanding record of Rotary service of its 103-year history.
