Magnitude 4.2 quake jolts Batangas — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 4.2-magnitude earthquake in Batangas province Monday evening, Aug. 22.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 4 kilometers (km) northeast of Tingloy, Batangas at around 10:59 p.m.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity III (weak) in Tagaytay City and Malvar, Batangas.

Meanwhile, Tanauan City, Batangas felt it at Intensity II (slightly felt).

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the earthquake at Intensity III in Batangas City, Batangas; Intensity II in Tagaytay City and Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; and Intensity I in Calatagan in Batangas, Magallanes in Cavite, San Pablo in Laguna, and Pinamalayan in Oriental Mindoro.

It noted that the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, Phivolcs does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
