Isolated rain showers, thunderstorms to prevail across PH

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Most of the country may experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening, due to localized thunderstorms, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGSA) on Saturday, Aug. 20.

PAGASA warned the public against severe thunderstorms that may cause flash floods or landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.

Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Meanwhile, PAGASA continued to monitor a low pressure area (LPA) at 930 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

“Over the weekend, there is a low chance that the LPA will become a tropical cyclone. But as it approaches land next week, we are not ruling out the possibility that it will become a weak cyclone or a tropical depression and bring rains over a large part of Luzon,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said in the PAGASA’s live weather forecast.

Estareja added that the weather disturbance may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which could also bring rains over Visayas and the western section of Mindanao.

He said that the LPA so far has no direct effect on the country.
