Vice President Sara Duterte, who sits as the Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary in a concurrent capacity, will be in Bataan on the first day of classes for School Year (SY) 2022-2023.
As announced by DepEd on Saturday, Aug. 20, the DepEd Chief is scheduled to visit the Dinalupihan Elementary School in Bataan on the school opening day set on Aug. 22 for public schools nationwide.
Duterte’s visit to the Dinalupihan ES is part of the National School Opening Day Program (NSODP) to be hosted by the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Bataan.
The VP-Secretary is expected to deliver a message on DepEd’s readiness for the new school year as well as to call for support from education stakeholders for the success of the school opening.
The NSODP is part of the 2022 OBE which aims “feature school opening activities and OBE initiatives.”
The SY 2022-2023 NSODP will be livestreamed on DepEd’s official Facebook page, YouTube channel, at DepEd Philippines website at 1 p.m.
During a press conference on Aug. 19, DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa announced that it is “all systems go” for this year’s school opening.

Based on DepEd’s latest figures, there are 27.1 million enrolled learners for SY 2022-2022.
Two years after school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, DepEd has allowed schools to hold face-to-face classes on the school opening day.
Data from DepEd showed that there are 60,177 schools nationwide that offer the K to 12 program. Of this number, 47, 553 are public schools, and 12, 624 are private schools.
Poa said that based on the reports from DepEd’s Regional Offices, 29,721 schools (51.8% percent) will do blended learning modality; 24, 175 schools (46 percent) will implement five days of face-to-face classes; and 1,004 schools (1.29 percent) opted for full distance learning.

From Aug. 22 until Oct. 31, DepEd will be allowing schools to implement alternative learning delivery modalities such as blended and distance learning.
However, starting Nov. 2, DepEd said that five days of in-person classes will be mandatory for all public and public schools nationwide.
