The Department of Tourism (DOT) through its attached agency, the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), will be marking the 31st anniversary of the ‘Hiroshima Peace Stone’ in the Philippines on Sunday, Aug. 21.
The Peace Stones used to be paved stones under Hiroshima streetcars that survived the bomb blast in 1945. In 1991, the Stones for Peace Association of Hiroshima began donating Peace Stones to heads of state around the world who share the desire for peace.

It is currently housed at the Japanese Garden in Rizal Park, Manila.
It became significant to each country possesses the Peace Stone, as the survivors of the bombing in 1954 carved on the stone the image of the Goddess of Mercy and the words “From Hiroshima”, to the value of peace.
“This Sunday, 21 August 2022, join us as we commemorate the 31st anniversary of the handover of the Peace Stone from Hiroshima to the Philippines through music, visual arts and various solidarity messages,” says on the NPDC advisory.
Dubbed as "Nurturing Bridges of Peace: The 31st Anniversary of the Hiroshima Peace Stone in the Philippines”, the commemoration starts at 9:30am at the Japanese Garden, Rizal Park Luneta. (Jun Marcos Tadios)
