Who are considered 'students-in-crisis' and how can they get one-time educational assistance from DSWD?

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will begin the distribution of educational cash assistance to “students-in-crisis” on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations or AICS program, the one-time Educational Assistance Payout to Students-in-Crisis can be used to pay for school fees, school supplies, projects, other fees, and allowances.

But who exactly are considered “students-in-crisis?”

In an infographics posted on Facebook on Friday, Aug. 19, the DSWD said that considered students-in-crisis are:

* breadwinner,

* working student,

* orphan/abandoned and living with relatives,

* child of a single parent,

* child whose parents are unemployed,

* child of an overseas Filipino worker,

* victim of child abuse,

* have a parent with human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, and

* victim of calamity or disaster.

Each student may receive P1,000 for those in elementary, P2,000 for those in high school, P3,000 for those in senior high school, and P4,000 for those in college/vocational school.

How to get educational assistance?

Walk-in applicants may go to the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City on:

* Aug. 20,

* Aug. 27,

* Sept. 3,

* Sept. 10,

* Sept. 17, and

* Sept. 24

DSWD’s Central Office will be open at 7 a.m., while DSWD field offices are open at 8 a.m.

The DSWD said that applicants may also email [email protected].

“Antayin ang text confirmation mula sa DSWD na naglalaman ng petsa at lugar kung saan kukunin ang assistance, gayundin ang mga requirements na dapat dalhin (Wait for the text confirmation from the DSWD that contains the date and place where the assistance will be received, as well as the requirements that must be submitted),” it said.

To qualify for the program, DSWD urged applicants to bring:

* student’s certificate of registration/enrollment

* valid ID of parent/guardian, and

* valid ID of college student/vocational education student who will receive assistance

“Siguraduhing hindi peke ang mga dokumentong dadalhin. Posibleng papanagutin sa batas ang mga mapatutunayang nagdala ng hindi lehitimong mga dokumento (Make sure the documents you will bring are not fake. Those found to have brought illegitimate documents may be held liable by law),” DSWD said.
