MB Daily News Update: Purge on sugar smuggling continues


A scheme using recycled import permits to smuggle sugar into the country was discovered by government authorities, according to Malacañang. This, after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) foiled an attempt to smuggle sugar from Thailand into the court through the Port of Subic.

The Department of Education (DepEd) confidently declared that it’s all systems go for the August 22, 2023 opening of schoolyear 2022-2023 in public schools.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed two more cases of the monkeypox virus infection in the country.

The Philippines is also bracing for the arrival of a low pressure area (LPA), which will affect the Bicol region and the Visayas in the coming days.
