Binay is 7th senator to catch Covid-19

Senator Nancy Binay is the seventh senator to get infected with Covid-19 in the 19th Congress.

Also reported to be Covid-19 positive on Friday morning, Aug. 19 was Senator Joseph Victor ‘’JV’’ Ejercito.

On Thursday, Senator Imee Marcos tested Covid-19 positive based on her reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, thus preventing her from going to Dubai to be with her countrymen who were slated to view the controversial ‘’Maid in Malacanang’’ movie this weekend.

Late Thursday night, Senate Majority Leader Emmanuel ‘’Joel’’ Villanueva was also reported Covid-19 positive based on an RP-PCR test result he transmitted to Senate reporters through his Viber account.

The test, according to Villanueva, was conducted by Marilao Medical and Diagnostic Clinic Inc, of Bocaue, Bulacan.

‘’I already informed SP (Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri) and my colleagues,’’ he said.

Hit by the Covid-19 virus within the last two weeks were Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Grace Poe and Cynthia Villar.

’’Tested positive for COVID-19 according to RT-PCR test yesterday morning, result of which was e-mailed late last night,’’ Ejercito said in his message sent to Senate reporters.

‘’No symptoms. No symptoms at all. Just had myself tested yesterday because so many senators are now positive,’’ Ejercito said.

Binay stated that ‘’after more than two years of consciously observing all protocols to avoid the virus, it is unfortunate that yesterday (Aug. 18), I tested positive for Covid-19.’’

‘’I am currently at home in isolation, and strictly following recommended protocols, including health and safety procedures,’’ she said.

My family and I are asking for your continued prayers for me and my colleagues in the Senate for our full recovery. As always, prayer is our first line of defense,’’ she added.
