“Around 90 percent of schools nationwide will open the SY 2022-2023 with in-person aspect on school opening,” said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa during the joint press conference of DepEd and Office of the Vice President (OVP) at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City.

Currently, Poa said that DepEd is still waiting for the breakdown of schools that will implement full face-to-face, blended learning, and full distance learning this incoming school year.

During the transition period or from Aug. 22 to Oct. 31, DepEd has allowed schools to choose which type of learning modalities they will implement once classes for SY 2022-2023 start next week.

Based on DepEd Order No. 034 series of 2022 or the School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2022-2023, the department only prescribed the options of five days of person in-person classes, blended learning modality, and full distance learning during the transition period.

DepEd said that all public and private schools should have transitioned to five days of in-person classes starting Nov. 2. Thus, “no school shall be allowed to implement purely distance learning or blended learning” except for those implementing alternative delivery modes.

Citing initial data, Poa said that 29,721 schools or 51.8 percent of schools nationwide will implement a blended learning modality. “But I have to remind you that our blended learning has an in-person aspect,” he explained.

Most schools will implement the three days in-person and two days distance learning setups.

Meanwhile, there are 24, 175 schools, or 46 percent of schools nationwide will implement five days in-person classes.

Poa said that only 1.29 percent or 1,004 schools will implement full distance learning.

In schools that will implement five days of in-classroom learning, Poa said that students will start using textbooks. In blended learning and full distance, learners are expected to use offline/printed modules.

Based on the enrollment data in SY 2021-2022, there are over 60,000 schools nationwide that offer basic education.

Of this number, 47,612 are public schools; 12,861 are private schools, and 239 are Local Universities and Colleges/State Universities and Colleges (LUC/SUC).
