Man who jumped onto LRT-1 train tracks in Caloocan City dies in hospital

The man who was run over by a train after he jumped onto the tracks of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Monumento Station in Caloocan City on Wednesday, Aug. 17, died in the hospital, police confirmed Thursday, Aug. 18.

Master/Sgt. Julius Mabasa of the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) East Grace Park Substation (SS2), investigator on case, told Manila Bulletin that Georick San Juan, 31, a resident of Bulacan, was declared dead at around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

The investigator said San Juan died due to hemorrhagic shock, traumatic amputation, and traumatic brain injury based on his death certificate.

The victim jumped onto the tracks at around 4:45 a.m. when the train bound for Balintawak was approaching the station.

San Juan’s right foot was detached from his body. He was rushed to the PGH for medical treatment. His remains were brought to his home in Bulacan.

Mabasa said that based on his interview with San Juan’s friend, Ger Manalac, 32, of Caloocan City, the victim allegedly went to the platfrom through the exit of Monumento Station.

He added that the sister of the victim told him that San Juan was first brought the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center but was allegedly rejected even though they were in an emergency situation.

The investigator also said that he is yet to get the statement of the guard who was on duty when the incident happened. They also requested from LRT-1 officials copies of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages in the area.

The case is still under investigation.
