4 students killed as vehicle rams truck in Quezon


TAYABAS CITY, Quezon -- Four students were killed when their vehicle rammed a truck in Barangay Calumpang in this city before dawn Wednesday, August 17.

Local police identified the victims as Mikaela Solomon, 23; Juan Carlos Alvarez, 22; Enrique Garcia, 20; and Elayne Ramirez, all residents of Candelaria, this province.

Investigation showed that victims' car, a Toyota Innova with license plates DAC-4983, suddenly rammed the Isuzu forward truck with license plates WTP-521 loaded with wood at 3 a.m.

They were on their way to Sariaya, this province, when the accident happened.

Truck driver was Cipriano Gonzalez Jr., 39, of Lopez, Quezon.

Garcia was the Innova driver.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sariaya, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Tayabas, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Tayabas, and Tayabas City PNP responded to the accident and extracted the victims who were trapped inside their vehicle.

The victims were brought to the hospital but they all were declared dead on arrival by Dr. Benjamin Patacin.

Police are still investigating the incident. Gonzalez is under local police custody.
