The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) disclosed Tuesday, August 16, that there was no casualty nor significant damage recorded after a magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolted Davao del Sur on Monday afternoon.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 11 km northwest of Magsaysay town at 4:23 p.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake had a depth of six km and was tectonic in origin.
“No reported damages and casualties as of reporting time,” the NDRRMC said in a situational report.
The municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO) of Magsaysay said it immediately activated its operation center to continue monitoring the effects of the earthquake in all 22 affected barangays.
The quake was felt at Intensity V in Kidapawan City; Davao City; Tupi and Polomolok in South Cotabato; and Malungon, Sarangani.
Intensity IV was noted in Sta. Cruz, Bansalan, Digos City, and Matanao, Davao del Sur; Koronadal City; Tampakan, Norala, and Banga, South Cotabato; Alabel, Sarangani; Lutayan, Columbio, Pres. Quirino, Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat; Tulunan and M'lang, Cotabato.
Intensity III was recorded in Cotabato City; Tantangan, Surallah, Palimbang, Isulan, Tacurong, and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, Arakan, Pigcawayan and Pres. Roxas, Cotabato; Kiamba, and Glan, Sarangani.
Intensity II was felt in Maasim, Sarangani.
Meanwhile, instrumental intensities were also noted in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Tupi, South Cotabato (Intensity V); Davao City, Davao Del Sur; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City, General Santos City, South Cotabato; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat (Intensity IV); Kiamba, Glan, Sarangani; Surallah, T'Boli, Santo Nino, South Cotabato (Intensity III); Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Maasim, Sarangani (Intensity II); and Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental (Intensity I).
