Korean film ‘Hunt’ tops weekend box office in Korea; now with 1.5 million tickets sold

“Hunt,” the directorial debut film of “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae, continued its winning streak at the box office in Korea.

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks cinema receipts, the espionage movie topped the weekend box office in Korea, selling 1.1 million tickets and earning $8.94 million from Aug. 12 to 14 for a revenue share of 45.64 percent.

This brought its total box office haul to 1.51 million tickets sold and revenue of $11.98 million in its five-day run from Aug. 10 to 15.

On Aug. 13, “Hunt” reached a milestone when it sold one million tickets.

Here are the 10 top-grossing movies at the weekend box office in Korea from Aug. 12 to 14:

1. HUNT (South Korea) – $8,945,037 (gross) – 1,110,565 (total admissions) – 45.64% (share)

2. Hansan: Rising Dragon (South Korea) – $5,911,488 – 727,535 – 30.16%

3. Emergency Declaration (South Korea) – $1,605,755 – 201,062 – 8.19%

4. Top Gun: Maverick (US) – $1,102,079 – 127,128 – 5.62%

5. DC League of Super-Pets (US) – $614,384 – 83,346 – 3.13%

6. Minions: The Rise of Gru (US) – $541,878 – 70,704 – 2.76%

7. OCTONAUTS Season 5 (UK) – $203,206 – 27,869 – 1.03%

8. Pororo Movie-Dragon Castle Adventure (South Korea) – $152,354 – 20,612 – 0.77%
