Former PBA champion Dong Polistico passes away 


Former PBA champion Adriano "Dong" Polistico, who played as a center for Alaska and San Miguel, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, due to heart attack.

Multiple local reports revealed the development Wednesday afternoon. He was 55.

Polistico was one of the tallest centers to play in the PBA back in the '90s as he stands at 6-foot-7.

He had one title with Alaska in 1991 and followed it up with back-to-back championships in 1993 and 1994 with San Miguel.

Polistico, who also played for the national team in the 1994 Asian Games in Japan, was drafted fourth overall by then the Milkmen, whose franchise Alaska was turned over to present team Converge FiberXers.

The former PBA center played for nine seasons in Asia's first professional basketball league.

Tributes poured on social media as fans mourn his passing.
