Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, Sen. Win Gatchalian, Sen. Robin Padilla, Sen. Bato Dela Rosa, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, and ex-President Estrada attended the wake of the late Ramos on Saturday, Aug. 6.
It was during the wake that the Senators re-enacted Ramos’ iconic “FVR Jump.”
Ramos popularized his memorable leap during the EDSA revolution, as he jumped for joy when he learned that late strongman President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and his family had been exiled from the Philippines to Hawaii. Ramos adopted the gesture and, throughout his career, has been seen and photographed in the air with his arms raised above his head.
The present Senators also presented Senate Resolution 5 to the bereaved family of Ramos; or the “Resolution Expressing the Profound Sympathy and Sincere Condolences of the Senate of the Philippines on the Death of Honorable Fidel Valdez Ramos, 12th President of the Republic of the Philippines.”
“Paid our respects to President Fidel Valdez Ramos today, kasama sina (with) Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, Sen. Win Gatchalian, Sen. Robin Padilla, Sen. Bato Dela Rosa, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Pia Cayetano, at Sen. Raffy Tulfo, at nakasama rin namin si (alongside) former President and Senator Erap Estrada. We also presented FVR’s family with our Senate resolution honoring his life, service, and legacy to the nation,” Zubiri wrote in a Facebook post on Aug. 6.
“Maraming salamat, FVR. Hindi ka namin makakalimutan (Thank you, FVR. We will not forget you),” the Senate President concluded.
