Team Secret yields to ONIC, wraps up 2022 VCT season

Team Secret wrapped up its 2022 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season after absorbing a 2-1 defeat at the hands of ONIC Esports in the APAC Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) Saturday, Aug. 6.

All three games saw a nip-and-tuck affair as both squads had 13-11 victories apiece in Fracture and Haven but ONIC secured the series win with yet another 13-11 scoreline in Breeze.

Hagai Kristen "Lmemore" Yesyurun led the Indonesians with 60 kills and nine assists on his Chamber and Sova.

As for the Filipinos, it was the team's controller Jim "BORKUM" Timbreza this time around who spearheaded with 52 kills and 24 assists on his Brimstone, Omen, and Viper.

After surviving ONIC in Haven, Team Secret put the match within striking distance and trailed 7-5 in the first half in Breeze.

ONIC, however, was the first to reach match point after winning two straight rounds with the Indonesians surviving their post-plant at B site in the latter frame.

Jayvee "DubsteP" Paguirigan's sniping skills on his Jett and Jeremy "Jremy" Cabrera's 3-kill clutch play on his Chamber in the ensuing rounds enabled Team Secret to trim the lead by one, 12-11.

But ONIC put the finishing touches in Round 24 and went full force in B Site with Michael "severiNe" Winata's Viper Pit in play to secure the series.

ONIC advanced to the lower bracket final and is playing against BLEED Esports as of this writing while BOOM Esports awaits the winner between the two squads.

Team Secret, composed of DubsteP, BORKUM, Jremy, Jessie "JessieVash" Cuyco, Kevin "dispenser" Te, and Riley "witz" Go, had its best finish in the VCT last year where the Filipinos reached the Champions, ruled by European squad Acend.

It was only this year when Jremy joined the team as its sixth man playing Duelist (Raze) and Sentinel (Chamber) roles.

The loss also meant that no Filipino team will represent the country in the Champions in Istanbul, Turkey.
