PNP taekwondo team is overall champ in 2022 World Police and Fire Games

The 14-man Taekwondo team from the Philippine National Police (PNP) has emerged as the overall champion during the 2022 World Police and Fire Games held in The Netherlands.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. said the event, held from July 22-31, was participated by some 10,000 police, fire, customs and corrections officers around the world.

Some 170 PNP representatives were in The Netherlands to compete in a number of sports competitions, including badminton, basketball, cycling, and track events.

During the competition, PNP Taekwondo Team from the PNP Headquarters Camp Crame harvested 17 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

The “PilipinasPuso” Volleyball Team from the PNP Regional Office 11 in Davao City, on the other hand, finished third place in the indoor volleyball competition.

“We always support programs and activities that promote the physical development and wellness of our personnel. The actual competition is as important as the preparation that encourages them to live an active lifestyle,” said Azurin.

“More than the medals they garnered, this experience enriched the values of our participating personnel while engaging with other athletes and promoting sportsmanship. In this way, they are champions in their own rights,” Azurin said.

Azurin sees this as a holistic approach in building the character of the PNP personnel.
