Vintage ammo dug up in Pangasinan cemetery

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan – Two-hundred vintage ammunition were unearthed in a cemetery in Barangay Zone VI here Thursday, August 4.

A report from the office of Pangasinan police director Police Col. Richmond Laranang Tadina said that a concerned citizen reported to the Bayambang police that ammunition was recovered in a cemetery in Barangay Zone VI past 1 p.m.

Policemen proceeded to the cemetery and found Michael Castro Jr., caretaker, who was excavating the ground for a tombstone when he discovered the bullets.

More than 200 corroded vintage caliber .50 ammunition were dug up.

Recovered ammunition was turned over to responding police personnel.

Police said these pose no danger to people. “Hindi naman masyadong mapanganib ang mga narekober kung hindi naman ginagalaw (These bullets pose no danger unless these are taken apart),” Police Lt. Col. Jim Helario, acting police chief here, said.

The World War II ammunition is now under the custody of the police here for documentation prior to turn over to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO), for proper disposition.
