Magnitude 5.6 quake jolts Davao Oriental — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 5.6-magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental province early Wednesday morning, August 3.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 51 kilometers southeast of Manay, Davao Oriental at 3:19 a.m., with a depth of 20 kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity IV as a “moderately strong” shaking in Manay, Tarragona, and Caraga in Davao Oriental.

City of Mati and Baganga in Davao Oriental felt the quake at Intensity III (weak).

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity I in Nabunturan in Davao de Oro, Malungon in Sarangani, and the City of Davao.

It noted that the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

Phivolcs advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
