The Department of Health (DOH) reported two cases of Omicron subvariant BA.2.75 in the country.
DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that these two cases were from Western Visayas.
"One individual is partially vaccinated while the other individual is unvaccinated," said Vergeire in a press briefing on Tuesday, August 2.
"Both individuals are now tagged as recovered," she added.
Vergeire said this Omicron subvariant is also more transmissible than the original Omicron variant but there is no evidence that suggests that it is causing more severe disease.
BA.5
In a related development, another 1,015 additional cases of BA.5 were reported. This brought the running total of BA.5 cases in the country to 3,012.
"All regions detected the variant except Region 9 and 10, and three returning overseas Filipinos tested positive for BA.5 variant," said Vergeire.
Of the BA.5 cases, 527 were already fully vaccinated, 12 were partially vaccinated, 16 cases have not been vaccinated, while the DOH is still verifying the vaccination status of the remaining cases.
Vergeire said taht 883 of them are now tagged as recovered, 84 are still undergoing isolation, "while the outcome of the rest are being verified."
BA.4
Twenty-six individuals were also found positive with the BA.4 Omicron subvariant, said Vergeire.
Six of these cases were from Metro Manila, four from Cagayan Valley, three from Western Visayas, two each from Central Luzon, Bicol, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Calabarzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). One case was also found in Ilocos Region.
"Seventeen individuals are fully vaccinated, two cases have not been vaccinated while the vaccination status of the remaining individuals are still being verified," said Vergeire.
Twenty-one individuals are now tagged as recovered, two cases are still undergoing isolation, while the status of three others are still being verified by the DOH.
The total number of BA.4 subvariant in the country stood at 97.
BA.2.12.1
Vergeire also reported 18 new cases of BA.2.12.1, bringing the total to 172.
Five of them were from Metro Manila, three cases each from Ilocos Region and CAR, two cases each from Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Calabarzon, and one from Cagayan Valley.
Thirteen of these cases have already recovered from Covid-19, four are still in isolation, while the DOH is still checking the status of the remaining case, said Vergeire.
