Majority Floor Leader Raul Corro was reelected by the Muntinlupa City Council as the president of the Philippine Councilors' League (PCL) Muntinlupa City Chapter during the election held after the regular session on Aug. 1.
As president, Corro will represent Muntinlupa at the national level, which is composed of the national board and the national executive officers.
The national board is headed by the national chairman and regional council chairpersons representing all the regions in the country, including the chairmen of the PCL Advocacy Committee and the PCL Legislative Academy.
Corro is the current chair of the PCL Advocacy Committee.
The national executive officers are headed by the national president and other executive officers and the presidents of each province and highly urbanized and independent cities.
As Advocacy Committee chairman for the last two terms, Corro was credited for the passage of the Eligibility Law for Councilors and the implementation of the salary step increment for elected officials.
He was tasked by the national board to represent PCL in defending the Eligibility Law in Congress and in pursuing the salary step increment for elected officials at the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The two advocacies are now being enjoyed by councilors nationwide, including other elected officials who benefitted from the PCL-initiated programs.
Corro said these advocacies were pursued in the name of the Metro Manila Councilors League (MMCL), of which he was the former chairman, as it is the organization that can best effectively follow up with national government agencies located in the National Capital Region.
He said that he will continue the other pending advocacies such as the voluntary contribution to the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for those who have completed three terms or pursue the passage of a law granting longevity pay to councilors who have served and completed several terms.
Another advocacy is the proposed amendment of the Local Government Code increasing the share of local government units in the national taxes now known as National Tax Allotment to further strengthen local autonomy among LGUs nationwide.
The other officials elected were Councilor Ryan Bagatsing, vice president; Councilor Marissa Rongavilla, secretary- general; Councilor Ivee Arciaga-Tadefa, treasurer; Councilor Cornelio Martinez, auditor; Councilor Arlene Hilapo, PRO; Councilor Allan Rey Camilon, business manager; and Councilors Lester Baes, Alexon Diaz, Paty Caty Boncayao, Luvi Constantino, Diosdado Moldez, Rachel Arciaga , Valentino Niefes and Jedidiah Presnedi, board of directors.
