PNP mourns death of FVR

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has expressed grief over the death of former President Fidel Valdez Ramos.

“The Philippine National Police mourns the death of former President Fidel Valdez Ramos. The nation lost a great leader,” the PNP said in a statement.

“We are one with our fellow countrymen in expressing our deepest condolences to the family of the former president,” it added.

Ramos, the 12th president of the Republic of the Philippines, became instrumental in the economic recovery through foreign investors’ confidence that was affected by the Martial Law period.

He was hailed as one of the heroes of EDSA People Power 1 after he stood up against the more than a decade of dictatorship in the country, a bold stand that resulted in the ousting of then President Ferdinand Marcos.

The PNP’s National Headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City shared a historical period with Ramos as it was in the police camp where he was holed up after withdrawing support from Marcos.

“He shall be remembered for his valuable contribution into improving the lives of the Filipinos,” the PNP statement read.

“More than being a military leader and a government official, he served as a good example to humanity through his incomparable wisdom and deeds,” it added.
